The Sun Smiled Upon Me

by Liz Nyabiage
(Kenya)

As I walked by the river,
and sat atop the cliff,
looked to the waters,
so menacingly fighting each other,
for a moment
I almost jumped
to be one with the monster
To be swept away
and taste the sharks.
But heaven beckoned me
and I looked to the horizon
Then I saw the setting sun
Beautiful and magnificent
Then I knew
There was still time for me
To stare at the horizon
And with for morning.
